Some hamlets in the Italian Alps still nowadays celebrate their unique traditional carnival.
Not just a costume carnival, these festivals commemorate historic events (as the passage of Napoleon across the Alps or the liberation from Saracens) or celebrate the end of the winter and arrival of a new spring.
Even if they were originated in isolated and distant alpine valleys, they share several aspects such as recurring charactes (the old couple, the soldier, the doctor, the bear or savage man) and decorative items as flower hats, colored dresses, fur costumes and masks.
